THE COLOUR OF A CLEAN OCEAN

Colour has a huge value in life. It’s makes the world more beautiful. Besides that, it’s used as a way of communication. Wearing colourful clothes can change emotions and feeling. But there’s also a downside on the colour of our clothes. How clothes are dyed nowadays is very harmful for the environment:

Roughly 17 to 20% of the water pollution is owed to fabric dyes and treatments. It also affects our health directly, because contact with dyed synthetics triggers allergic reactions, skin irritation, rashes and it even increases the risk of cancer.

But there’s another way; natural dyeing. With this process there won’t be used any harmful chemicals, which makes it environmentally friendly. This project shows the process of natural dyeing with a broad colour range as result. I experimented with food(leftovers) and other natural ingredients.
